TikTok Shop Adds Made-to-Order — and Gives Custom Products More Time to Ship

Eligible sellers in the US can now set a handling time of 3–14 business days for made-to-order products, creating a much more realistic fulfillment window for custom production.

TikTok Shop has introduced a change that could make the platform significantly more accessible to brands selling customized and made-to-order products.

In the United States, eligible sellers can now enable Made-to-Order (MTO) for approved products that require additional production time after an order is placed.

The most important change is the fulfillment window. Instead of working within TikTok Shop's standard 2-day dispatch SLA, sellers using Made-to-Order can specify a handling time of between 3 and 14 business days.

Why is this important?

Products that are printed, embroidered, personalized or otherwise produced after purchase now have a fulfillment model that better reflects the time actually needed to manufacture them.

Made-to-Order handling time

3–14

business days can now be assigned as handling time for eligible Made-to-Order products before the order is handed over to the shipping carrier.

Standard SLA

2 days

The standard TikTok Shop dispatch window remains much shorter for regular products.

What is TikTok Shop Made-to-Order?

TikTok defines Made-to-Order as a listing option for eligible products that need additional handling time to produce.

In this case, handling time means the number of business days required for the seller to process the order, produce the item and hand it over to the selected shipping carrier.

Sellers can choose a handling time between 3 and 14 business days, depending on how long the product needs to be prepared.

Customers are informed that they are purchasing a Made-to-Order product. TikTok displays the information on the product page and again during checkout, together with the estimated delivery date.

The longer production window becomes part of the purchase experience instead of appearing to the customer as an unexpected fulfillment delay.

What does this mean for print-on-demand?

This is particularly relevant for print-on-demand because a POD product often does not physically exist when the customer clicks the Buy button.

The order first needs to enter production. Depending on the product, that may include printing, embroidery, finishing, quality control, packing and only then shipping.

A strict two-day dispatch requirement leaves very little room for this type of workflow. A Made-to-Order window of up to 14 business days changes the equation considerably.

1

A realistic production window

Sellers have more time to manufacture a product after the customer places an order instead of needing finished stock ready in advance.

2

Lower inventory risk

Brands can produce closer to actual demand rather than purchasing larger quantities of every design, size and variation before knowing what will sell.

3

More room for personalization

Products with custom artwork, names or other customer-specific elements naturally require additional processing time.

4

More products can fit the model

Extended handling time creates an opportunity to offer products that were difficult to combine with TikTok Shop's standard dispatch requirements.

A better match for on-demand production

The core advantage of print-on-demand is simple: production starts when there is an actual order.

Instead of forecasting demand and holding finished products in storage, sellers can connect an order directly with the production workflow.

Step 01 Customer places an order
Step 02 Product enters production
Step 03 Item is finished and packed
Step 04 Order is handed to the carrier

Made-to-Order gives this workflow more breathing room while still giving the customer an estimated delivery date before completing the purchase.

For sellers, that can also make it easier to avoid dispatch SLA issues caused simply by the fact that a product genuinely needs time to be manufactured.

Made-to-Order is not available to every seller

There is an important limitation: Made-to-Order is not currently a universal setting that every TikTok Shop seller can activate.

The feature currently applies to the United States and is available only to shops and products that meet TikTok Shop's eligibility requirements.

Shop Performance Score

Sellers need to achieve and maintain an SPS of at least 3.5.

Account Health Rating

The shop must maintain an Account Health Rating above 150.

Good account standing

Sellers cannot be under temporary account restrictions and must not have intellectual property or severe policy violations.

Eligible product category

The Made-to-Order option appears only for approved product categories.

TikTok also states that Made-to-Order cannot be enabled together with its Pre-Order feature.

It should not be treated simply as a way to extend shipping times for regular products. TikTok warns that using the setting for non-customized products can result in the feature being disabled and may lead to additional penalties.

More time does not mean unlimited time

The new option gives sellers a larger production window, but the handling time selected for the listing still becomes part of the seller's fulfillment commitment.

TikTok requires Made-to-Order products to be updated to In Transit within one business day after the specified handling time.

So the goal is not simply to choose the longest possible setting. Sellers still need a production and fulfillment setup capable of consistently meeting the timeline promised on the listing.

The practical takeaway

Made-to-Order reduces the mismatch between fast-commerce fulfillment rules and custom production, but reliable production remains essential. The handling window should reflect the time the product genuinely needs.

TikTok Shop just became more interesting for POD

Social commerce is built around speed. Customers discover a product in content, tap through to the listing and can complete the purchase without leaving the platform.

That model works naturally for products already sitting on a warehouse shelf. It has traditionally been more challenging for products that first need to be manufactured.

Made-to-Order is an important change because it acknowledges a different ecommerce model: one where the sale can happen before production begins.

For brands using print-on-demand, that means TikTok Shop can become a more practical channel for testing designs, launching personalized products and responding to trends without carrying large inventories of finished goods.

TikTok published the Made-to-Order documentation for the US market on July 28, 2026. Eligibility, supported categories and fulfillment requirements may change, so sellers should check the latest documentation before enabling the feature.

A bigger window for made-to-order commerce

For print-on-demand sellers, the most interesting part of this update is not simply that TikTok has added another listing option.

It is that the platform now allows eligible products to operate within a fulfillment timeline that is much closer to the reality of on-demand manufacturing.

More production time means more room for customization, less need to hold finished inventory and a lower risk of running into dispatch problems simply because an item needs to be produced before it can be shipped.

The feature is currently limited to eligible US sellers and categories, but it is an important development for anyone watching the connection between social commerce and on-demand production.

Sell first. Produce second. Now with a more realistic timeline.
